Alan Steck

We just returned from California where we did a bunch of great interviews with Yosemite climbing legends like Yvon Chouinard, Alan Steck Jim Bridwell, John Long, Mike Graham and many others. These are part of the raw material for an epic feature documentary film we are making about the hardman counterculture of Yosemite climbing history. Picture ‘Dogtown and Z-Boys’ meets ‘Touching the Void’. The film will cover three periods: The Golden Age, the Stonemasters, and the current day valley climbing scene. We have been working on it for over a year and it will likely take at least another, as we take big bites out of it in between other more immediate projects. But the thing is really coming together, and we are really psyched about it. Working title: “Valley Uprising.” Photos by Jeffrey Cunningham, who is the cinematographer on the project.
